OFF SEASON : A Case of the Unfortunates

In no way do I wish to start my post on a negative note but this trip was full of incompleted expectations. All due to my extremely planned spontaneity….

Montreal was always on the list of places to wander and with a two day break in my work schedule my boyfriend and I drove up.
On the itinerary: Montreal | Niagra Falls | and Scranton, PA
(if you’ve ever had a love for The Office, you’d understand why this is significant)

Montreal was rainy and gross so the site-seeing wasn’t as sublime as I thought it would be. To be completely honest, it was like France, just a really American version of it. Imagine French architecture, American advertising, all in some weird version of the French language, and there you have it my friends, Canada.

Now, the best view in Montreal, and I can’t imagine how much better it would have been in a warmer setting, was at the Mount Royal Park. It had the most beautiful landscape overshadowed by an ambivalent daunting hike to the top. Be sure if you visit this country, going Sunday is a serious loss for culture, all the shops are closed and barely anyone is around.

Jour Deux. Niagra is another commercial infested town. And though The Falls were completely magnificent, I still managed to show up at the most inopportune of times. The Maid of the Mist was closed for the season and so was the rest of the attractions at The Falls. Though I did appreciate the lack of tourism, I would have really liked to have gone on that maiden voyage.

Jour Deux (continued). After lunch we drove all through Upstate New York, which, if you’ve ever been, looks like you’re in a totally different country. On the way to ghost-town Scranton, in search of the ‘Scranton Welcomes You’ sign, we pull up into the mall, where it was put, to find that NBC has taken it down because of the show’s recent finale.

That is all for now, later this week I’ll be doing some flea market searching in NYC.
